Abstract

Dimethylolurea 600 parts by weight, crystal urea 75, sodium acetate 15 and water 300 are mixed and dissolved together at 95 DEG C. A condensing agent such as lactic acid is added to the solution in amount sufficient to effect a drop of 2.5-3 units on the pH scale. Reaction is carried out at 105-110 DEG C. for 20-60 minutes until tackiness is developed, and the mass is neutralized with an aqueous solution of sodium bicarbonate. The syrup thus prepared has a solids content of about 65 per cent and may be used (as a binder for wood particles (see Group V)) as 100 parts by weight of syrup mixed with 20 parts of water in which has been dissolved 1 to 3 parts of ammonium chloride.
