Abstract
760,998. Bolts &c. PLAGEMANN, W. [trading as PEE-WEE MASCHINEN-UND APPARATEBAU W PLAGEMANN]. June 14, 1954 [July 4, 1953], No. 17438/54. Class 89 (1). [Also in Group XXII] In the manufacture of a screw bolt, an internally-threaded bolt head 6 is permanently secured to the end of a shank 1, cut-off from a length of threaded rod by forming a longitudinal groove 7 in the base of the head, screwing the head on the end of the shank and driving a steel pin 8 of constant cross-section except for a pointed tip into the groove so as to upset the threads in the shank and hence secure the head thereon. The pin is partly hammered into the groove, is then broken off adjacent the head, Fig. 3 (not shown), and the remainder of the pin is then hammered in so as to be flush with the end surface of the head. Blocks 2, 3, Fig. 7, having threaded recesses 14, 15 to accommodate various sizes of bolt shank are used to hold the latter firmly between vice jaws 4, 5, Fig. 1. The blocks are located by rods 16, 17 and are biased apart by springs 18,19. Wing heads may be secured to threaded shanks by the method of the invention.
