Abstract

Vinyl chloride polymers are stabilized by incorporating in the polymer e.g. polyvinyl chloride, a mixture comprising (1) 0.5 to 1.5 parts of a dialkyltin di-salt of an aliphatic, saturated or unsaturated, monocarboxylic acid having from 9 to 15 carbon atoms in the molecule or a dialkyltin salt of an aliphatic, saturated or unsaturated dicarboxylic acid having from 4 to 8 carbon atoms in the molecule, the alkyl groups attached to the tin atom having from 2 to 8 carbon atoms in the group; (2) 2 to 4 parts of barium and/or strontium ricinoleate; (3) 1 to 2 parts of cadmium ricinoleate; (4) 1 to 3 parts of an epoxide resin, and optionally phenyl or dialkyl tin salicylate and a plasticizer, e.g. dioctyl phthalate. The mixture may be made by suspending ingredients (2) and (3) in the plasticizer before adding (1) and (4). Dibutyltin dilaurate is the specified tin salt and the epoxide resin may be a condensation product of epichlorohydrin and diphenylolpropane. The stabilized compositions may be formed into sheets, foils or tubes.
