Abstract

758,514. Stopping shafts in predetermined positions. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Jan. 5, 1953, No. 266/53. Class 80(2) [Also in Group XXXIV] A mechanism for positively stopping a shaft in a predetermined position comprises a pair of meshing gear wheels, cam members attached to each gear wheel and sweeping overlapping circles so as to interfere mutually in one position but not in adjacent positions, one cam member being movable diametrically of its gear wheel, and a positive stop member brought into position by movement of said one cam to stop said shaft after a predetermined number of revolutions. As shown "exploded" in Fig. 1 an input shaft 1 drives a gear wheel 2 and a meshing gear wheel 6, a further gear 3 and a meshing output gear wheel 5. After a predetermined number of revolutions a cam member 16 secured to the wheel 6 will make contact with a cam member 15 diametrically slidable on the wheel 2 against a spring 13. A portion 17 of the member 15 will then project and come into contact with a stop 24. Springs 20 allow a slight angular movement of the member 24 to reduce shock, but the movement is limited by a stationary pin 22 engaging a slot 21. In a modification two angularly spaced cams are provided on the wheel 6.
