Abstract

758,458. Thermal switches. THOMPSON & CO. (SUNBURY), Ltd., R. E., and BENFORD, P. R. Jan. 25, 1955 [Nov. 2, 1953], No. 30219/53. Class 38(5) A cut-out for an electric kettle comprises a housing 3 welded at 4 to the heater element 1 and enclosing a U-shaped bent metal frame 5. carrying on its base a U-shaped bimetal element 9, apertures 11 in the element 9 latching the spearhead 10 of a plunger 6 against the bias of a spring 7 acting between a collar 8 on the plunger and the ends of the arms of the frame 5. On overheating, the element 9 releases the plunger 6 which pushes a reset button 14 having a flange 17, the flange engaging a pair of spring contacts 15 (only one shown) to break the circuit to the heater element terminals 16. In a modification (not shown) the plunger 6 acts to eject the inlet plug connected to the contact pins 13. The Provisional Specification refers to Specification 686,800.
