Abstract
758,182. Cathode materials and processing. EGYESULT IZZOLAMPA ES VILLAMOSSAGI, R. T. Dec. 19, 1951 [Dec. 19, 1950], No. 29752/51. Class 39 (1). A " supply " cathode having an oxide underlayer to the emissive layer of alkaline earth metal is made by impregnating a porous core body of compressed sintered tungsten with a decomposable compound such as the nitrate, converting to oxide by heating not above 600‹ C. in vacuum, and activating at about 1000‹ C. The work function is less than 1.5 volts. The tungsten body may contain thorium, the starting compound being then a mixture of ammonium tungstate and thorium monoxide which is reduced in hydrogen before sintering. An additional reserve of emissive material may be placed on the non-emitting side of the core body.
