Abstract
757,655. Welding by pressure. KOCKS GES., F. June 30, 1954, No. 19224/54. Class 83(4). In pressure welding metal, e.g. steel parts the edges of the parts are heated by electric induction only to a temperature below welding temperature and then air or a mixture of air and oxygen is blown against the heated edges to raise their temperature to welding temperature before pressing the edges together. In an embodiment a slotted tube 1 formed from strip is moved in the direction of the arrows through guide rollers 2 where the edges are heated to 1300‹ C. by induction elements 3, 4. Air or air and oxygen is blown from a nozzle 6 against the edges to raise their temperature to 1450- 1500‹ C. before the tube enters the welding rollers 5. The induction heating means may be disposed in advance of or rearwardly of the guide rollers.
