Abstract

757,631. Lamp shade fittings. BOISSEVAIN, W. Oct. 1, 1954 [Jan. 26, 1954], No. 2406/54. Class 75(2). In an electric lamp shade fitting the part attached to an electric lamp holder by which part the shade is suspended comprises a cylindrical or conical element attached to the holder by an annulus having apertures therein, there being a passage between the holder and element. The shade is suspended from the element by flexible adjustable cords, wires &c. In the case of a ceiling light the element may be formed with a flange with holes through which securing means extend to the ceiling. As shown, where the cylindrical element 10 supporting the lamp shade 19 is carried by the lamp holder 14, the element 10 is provided with an internal shoulder 11 resting on top of the annulus 13 provided with holes 16 and clamped between the shoulder of the lamp holder and the usual shade fixing ring 15. The member 10 extends above the annulus 13 to hide the upper part of the holder 14 and below to encircle the neck of the lamp bulb. The bowl e.g. of moulded synthetic translucent resin has a separable rim portion 19 with an inwardly directed recessed flange 20, Fig. 1 or a plurality of lugs 30, Fig. 3 and a bottom part with concentric louvres 22-25 connected together by radiating arms 26 tapering downwards and having portions 27 projecting beyond the outermost louvre 25 to be received into the recess of flange 20 or by the lugs 30 and to be secured thereto by hollow rivets 29. The bottom may be correctly located with respect to the upper part by V -notches in the ends of the projecting arm portions 27 cooperating with V-projections in the recess of rim 20 or lugs 30. A bead-chain 18 has an enlarged ball 31 at one end to prevent its passing through the hollow rivet 29 and the other end of the chain is inserted in a key hole slot 17 of which there may be a series one above the other for adjusting the position of the shade in relation to the lamp holder to suit the lamp bulb used.
