Abstract
756,421. Luminescent materials. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Jan. 25, 1952 [April 25, 1951], No. 9650/51. Class 39 (1). An advertising device comprises thermoplastic tubing containing luminescent material and external source of ultra-violet radiation. The tubing can be of cellulose acetate or polyethylene and is flexible so that it can be bent to desired shape. The luminescent material can bo a powder, which may be coloured, adhering to the inner surface of the tubing and may be in juxtaposition to another luminescent or non- luminescent material. The tubing may be flattened to aid adherence of the powder. Alternatively the luminescent material can be a liquid which may be in motion and may contain bubbles of gas or vapour. The tubing may contain a core to diminish its internal volume. The luminescent materials may be solutions of rhodamine or anthracene, or zinc sulphide or zinc cadmium sulphide &c., as disclosed in Specification 521,099, [Group XL], or fluorescent materials which may be coated with or embedded in organic or partly organic materials as disclosed in Specification 722,802.
