756,274. Control of A.C. motors. ELEKTRO-MECHANIK GES. Aug 6, 1954, No. 22921/54. Class 38(3) A driving arrangement for a winch comprises an induction motor 10 having a high rotor resistance 11, a magnetic powder clutch 13 or an eddy current clutch being coupled between the motor and the load. The power output of the drive is maintained constant despite changes in speed by means of a tachometer generator 15 which is coupled to the output shaft of the clutch and has its exciting winding connected in series with the energizing winding 17 of the clutch. These windings are supplied from an amplifier 16 the input voltage of which is represented by the difference between a reference voltage derived from potentiometer 18 and the armature voltage of the tachometer generator. The arrangement is such that the major part of the slip power is transformed into heat within the rotor resistance and only a small part within the clutch.
