Abstract

756,182. Automatic regulation. BAILEY METERS & CONTROLS, Ltd. Jan. 13, 1955 [Jan. 15, 1954], No. 1194/54. Class 38 (4). - A stable direct voltage is produced between terminals 76 and 78 from an A.C. supply of variable voltage and frequency applied to terminals 2 and 4. A condenser 6 and the primary of a saturable transformer 12 connected in series across the supply terminals are resonant at a frequency below that of the supply. The output of transformer 12 is rectified at 28 and applied to a non-linear bridge circuit 48 including tungsten filament lamps 54 and 60. By adjustment of a rheostat 26 the voltage applied to bridge circuit 48 is such that its output is a maximum so that rate of change of output voltage with respect to input voltage is zero. A condenser 21 and an inductance 22 connected in series across the secondary of transformer 12 are resonant at a frequency above that of the supply and provide compensation for frequency variations. A more stable A.C. supply may permit condenser 6 and the frequency compensating circuit to be dispensed with.
