756,117. Protractors. HARRIES, B. T. Sept. 1, 1954, No. 25379/54. Class 97 (3). A navigational course finder comprises a base member 1 pivoted at 16 to a transparent upper member 8 which bears one or more circular scales of degrees and a series of parallel lines 13 running parallel to the zero angular marking or alternatively or additionally a series of parallel lines 14 running at right angles to the zero angular marking, the base member having a reading line through the pivot. The latter line may be one such as 5, parallel to the straight edge 2, and there may be a second reading line 7, perpendicular to the first. The upper member may have a representation of the compass points. In use, the instrument is laid on a chart 17 with the straight edge 2 along the course AB, and the upper member is rotated so that one of the parallel lines 13 coincides with one of the meridian lines 18. The direction of the course is then read off on the upper member. Specification 677,346 is referred to.
