Abstract
A solution of cellulose acetate for application to the operative surface of a mould employed in the moulding of polyester resins thereby depositing a layer of cellulose acetate which functions as an effective parting agent comprises 1-10 per cent by weight of cellulose acetate and the balance of a solvent mixture consisting of a major proportion by volume of acetone, the remainder consisting of methyl ethyl ketone and any one or more of the following: ethyl acetate, diacetone alcohol, nitromethane, butanol and ethyl lactate.ALSO:In the moulding of polyester resins the operative surface of the mould is coated with cellulose acetate which functions as an effective parting agent. The cellulose acetate is applied, e.g. by brushing or spraying, to the mould in solution in a solvent mixture comprising acetone, methyl ethyl ketone and one or more of the following:-ethyl acetate, diacetone alcohol, nitromethane, butanol and ethyl lactate, the solvent then being removed by drying. The solution may be applied to moulds made of wood, metal, asbestos, reinforced resins, sand impregnated with furane resin, plaster of Paris, artificial stone such as magnesium oxychloride cement or glass. The solution may also be applied to enamelled surfaces.
