A staple or hook for connecting the ends of a belt comprises a pair of V-shaped wire limbs 8, 9, Fig. 4, spaced apart and joined by a bridge portion 6 at one extremity. the other extremity having pointed ends which are hooked over the bridge portion after being passed through the belt. A connected series of staples may be formed by spot welding a connecting wire thereto. an alternative construction, Fig. 11, for a connected series comprises single limb staples 39 with ends 37 bent and welded' at 38 tn the adjacent staple.
