Abstract

755,241. Excavating earth and rock. ANDERSON, BOYES & CO., Ltd. Feb. 8, 1955 [Feb. 12, 1954], No. 4177/54. Class 68 (1) A mining machine of the kind having a rotary cutting implement 12 extending unilaterally of the machine and rotatable about a horizontal axis which is normal to, or oblique to, the direction of travel of the machine has a gear head casing comprising a box-like section 11a bolted to the machine and a main section 11 secured to the section 11a, the section 11 being recessed in its upper and lower sides at 15, 16, Fig. 3, to allow a large clearance between an armoured conveyer 13 and the section 11. The larger gears 14, 18, 23 in the section 11 are disposed to each side of the waisted portion 15, 16. The cutting implement 12 may be disposed on either side of the machine by turning the section 11 through a half-circle about a longitudinal axis of the machine. The section 11 may be adjusted vertically by an eccentric spigot or other means.
