Abstract

754,246. Winding and reeling. BREITENBACH MASCHINENFABRIK UND EISENGIESSEREI GES., W. March 17,1954 [May 6, 1953], No. 7795/54. Class 83 (4). A wire winding machine has a plurality of independent wire winding units each comprising a reel and a rotating coiler and each unit being operable in two ways either with the reel stationary and wire led thereto over guide means on the rotating coiler or with the reel rotating and wire led over fixed guide means. Eight independent wire winding units, mounted on a housing 1 and driven from worms 3 on a common drive shaft 2, each comprise a winding disc 8 fast on a shaft 5, driven from a worm 3 through a worm-wheel 4 loose on the shaft and a clutch 27 operated by linkage 28, and a reel 15 loose on the shaft 5. The winding disc 8 carries a shaft 19 having a pinion 17 at one end running on a stationary gear 16 and pinions 22, 18 at the other end adapted to engage gears 23, 20 respectively slidable but not rotatable, on a hub of the reel 15. When the unit is to be used with the reel stationary, a linkage means 24 is moved to slide the gears 22, 23 to disengage the pinion 21 and engage the pinion 18. As the pinion 18 and gear 22 are the same size as the pinion 17 and fixed gear 16, the reel will not rotate and wire, fed over guide pulleys 14, 13 through the hollow shaft 5 and over guide pulleys 11 and 10 on the winding disc 8, is wound around the reel. When the reel is to be rotated, the gear 22 is disengaged and the gear 23 engaged with the pinion 22, the sizes of the pinion 22 and gear 23 being suitably chosen for the desired speed and direction of rotation of the reel. Wire is led over a guide pulley 26 retractably mounted on a fixed part of the machine, the pulley 10 on the rotating disc 8 being tilted back to an inoperative position.
