[Also in Group XVII] A pig, billet &c. a is formed with tooth-like projections b extending along the shorter sides thereof, which teeth are preferably formed with bevelled edges. A stack is built up on pig supports e, Fig. 4, having feet f, the projections b of adjacent pigs a<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 7, pointing in opposite directions. Succeeding layers are laid transversely to the preceding layer. In the top layer, Fig. 9, the pigs an are laid with the projections pointing downwardly and the edge pigs a<SP>1</SP>n are held against lateral displacement by the projections b of the pigs underneath.
