753,813. Resilient mountings; spring suspensions. OPEL AKT.-GES., A. Sept. 22, 1954 [Nov. 11, 1953], No. 27395/54. Classes 108 (2) and 108 (3). [Also in Group XXXI] An independent front suspension for a motor vehicle has a front suspension cross-member 11 connected to the vehicle frame by rubber elements 36, see Fig. 4, of large volume and arranged to be stressed in shear to give a variable rate, and further rubber elements 49 which resiliently resist horizontal displacement between the suspension cross-member 11 and the frame beyond a predetermined value. The suspension cross-member 11 carries suspension links for axle carriers at each end together with helical springs and telescopic shock-absorbers (not shown) and has rigidly secured to it stays 13 the joined ends of which are embedded in a rubber cushion strapped to the front crossmember 14 of the vehicle frame. Each rubber element 36 is contained between sleeves 35 and 41, and is connected by its inner sleeve 35 to each side rail 12 and by its outer sleeve 41 is connected to an end of the suspension crossmember 11 by a strap 43 which is held between the corrugations 44 and 45 and is keyed by a projection 46 engaging a hole 47. Plates 25 are welded to the side rails 12 to provide a level bearing for the rubber elements 36 the shaped ends of which bear against plates 34 and 37 to make increasing contact with the plates with increased load. A downwardly - depending flange 48 on the plate 34 has bonded to it the further rubber element 49 in the form of a thin hard rubber ring.
