752,710. Centrifugal pumps. AKTIEBOLAGET PUMPINDUSTRI. June 2,. 1954 [June 2, 1953], No. 16289/54. Class 110(1) A vertical pump aggregate comprises at least two centrifugal pumps pumping separate liquids and driven by a common driving shaft extending downwardly from the electric driving motor, the body of each pump being provided at the edges extending at right angles to the shaft with flanges allowing interconnection of the pump bodies and connection to adjacent members, the flanges being of the same shape so as to allow each of the bodies to be inserted into the aggregate with one or the other flange directed towards the other body. Two pump units 16, 18, Fig. 6, are disposed between a base 14 and an intermediate member 12 which supports the electric driving motor 10. Flanges 20, 22, 24, 26 on the pump units 16, 18, and the corresponding flanges on the member 12' and base 14 are all similar. The inlet flanges 38, 42 and outlet flanges 36, 40 (shown in Fig. 5) are equally spaced from the top and bottom faces of the respective pump unit 16 or 18. and these flanges may, in pairs or all together, have the same form and have similarly located holes for the connecting bolts. A stuffing box 50 and a bearing 45 and cap 43 are attachable to either end of the pump unit 18. These arrangements permit the pump units 16, 18 to be mounted in various ways, to provide alternative positions of the inlet and outlet and to provide for clockwise or anticlockwise rotation. An additional pump may be added to the aggregate, the shaft being correspondingly lengthened. Fig. 5 shows two pump aggregates with the pump units 16, 18 of one aggregate inverted compared with those of the other aggregate so that their outlet flange 36, 40 all face in the same direction and their inlet flanges 38, 42 face towards each other for connection through valves 64, 66 and 58, 60 to pipes 68 and 62 respectively. One aggregate is held in reserve while the other is working.
