Abstract
751,778. Radio receiving circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Feb. 19, 1954 [March 28, 1953], No. 4965/54. Classes 40 (5) and 40 (6). A multi-band receiver uses a self - oscillating triode as mixer on an ultra-short waveband (U.S.W.), whereas on lower frequencies a multiplicative mixer is used with the triode as local oscillator. In U.S.W. reception, the switches 9, 12, 12<SP>1</SP> being in the positions shown, signals from the tuned U.S.W. aerial coupling circuit 1 are applied to the grid of the mixer 5 via a capacitive tap C1, C2 on the reaction coil, which comprises a balanced bridge network. The valve is back-coupled to oscillate, via tuned circuit 6 and I.F. oscillations are taken from its anode circuit by means of a tuned transformer 8. They are applied to the grid of a high-slope pentode 11 operating as an I.F. amplifier. I.F. feedback is applied to the mixer 5 by back-coupling its anode and grid circuits via an U.S.W. choke 7. In reception on lower frequencies, the switches 9, 12, 12<SP>1</SP> are reversed. Signals from a tuned aerial coupling circuit 15 are then applied to the grid of the pentode 11 which now functions as mixer. The valve 5 is, back-coupled to act as oscillator, with sup. pressor-grid injection at the mixer 11.
