Abstract

750,871. Winding wire. SYNCRO MACHINE CO. May 25, 1954 [Aug. 19, 1953], No. 15440/54. Class 120 (2). [Also in Group XVI] An expansible spindle for supporting a spool S upon which wire is to be wound, comprises a rotatable shaft 10 having a pressure fluid cylinder 11 arranged therein, the cylinder being provided with spring-urged pistons 21, 22 shaped to engage the inclined surfaces of wedges 19 held, in pairs, in recesses in the cylindrical wall by bars 20, three pairs of wedges 19, spaced 120 degrees apart about the cylinder, being preferably provided. Pressure fluid from a supply pipe 34 is led through a valve 33 and rotary connection 31, 32 to the cylinder through a tube 15. Screws 191 prevent the wedges 19 and bar 20 of each assembly from falling from their seatings in the cylindrical wall when the spool S is removed from the spindle.
