Abstract
750,751. Lift catch gear. WERKSPOOR N.V. May 17, 1954 [July 4, 1953], No. 14468/54. Class 78(3). Catch gear for a lift cage consists of a member 3 which is locked to the guides 1 by dogs 4 when the winding rope 5 runs slack, and a coupling between the member 3 and the cage 2 comprising strips 10 of deformable material, e.g. mild steel, which are normally housed within a tube 11 but are withdrawn therefrom when the member 3 is arrested so cushioning the stopping of the cage. The walls of this tube are provided with dovetail cross-section grooves (not shown) to accommodate the similarly shaped adjacent legs of strips 10 and thereby support them against collapse under the axial compressive loads imposed thereon.
