Abstract

Class 38(3) A control switch 13 for an electric motor 1 is resiliently biased to an open position and is closed when an operating lever 2 is actuated to release a brake for the motor. The actuating means for the control switch comprise an adjustable link 6 pivoted on the member 2 and coupled to lever 8 which is secured to spindle 9 in a cable-operating device 10. Longitudinal movement of the cable 11 resulting from upward movement of the brake lever 2 causes the switch 13 to close. The control switch is connected in parallel with another switch which is closed when the motor is initially switched on and is opened at a predetermined period after the motor has been energized. Thus, if the brake is not released within the predetermined period, then the motor is disconnected. Correct operation of the brake and the associated mechanical linkage, however, allows the switch 13 to maintain the motor circuit when the time-controlled contacts of the other switch are opened.
