Abstract
749,267. Gas turbine plant. METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. June 10, 1954 [Sept. 21, 1953], No. 26022/53. Class 110(3) In an open-circuit gas turbine plant of the kind in which high-pressure air from one or more compressors 2, 4 is supplied to at least one main combustion chamber 6, which supplies combustion products to a high-pressure turbine 9 a re-heat combustion chamber 10 being provided ahead of a low-pressure turbine 12, high pressure air is bled at 16 from the supply to the main combustion chamber 6 and used to cool a part or parts of the reheat combustion chamber 10 and is returned to the main stream at a point 20 downstream of the main combustion chamber 6 and preferably before the turbine 9. The cooling air is circulated at 18 through suitable passages or cavities within or in thermal relation to the parts to be cooled. The circulation is effected by the pressure difference between the points 16 and 20. An intercooler 3 and a preheater 5 are provided.
