A padded layer for upholstery &c., is composed of sponge rubber flakes b arranged in layers separated by partition walls of textile fabric c and contained within a cover of sponge rubber slabs a. In a modification, Fig. 2, the sponge rubber flakes are contained in individual cells or bags c which are interconnected by adhesive.
