Abstract
747,378. Manually-actuated valves. CLAYTON DEWANDRE CO., Ltd. May 26,1954 [Feb. 2, 1954], No. 3114/54. Class 135. A fluid-pressure selector control valve has pivotable members 14 connecting pairs of valve elements 12, 12<SP>1</SP> and a control member 16 manually displaceable into engaging relation with any desired pivotable member and actuatable to rock the pivotable member and reciprocate the valve elements in opposite directions. By pulling or pushing the handle 23 perpendicularly to the Figure a shaft 20 moves the member 16 between the forks of one of three pivotable members. Rotation of the handle and shaft makes the member 16 engage a cam 25 to close an exhaust passage 24 and open a supply valve 6 to an outlet 11. As shown, the member 16 is locked by passing through a deadcentre position and shoulders on the shaft 20 engage one of the forks to prevent axial movement. In the neutral position of the member 16, both supply valves are closed and both exhaust valves are open. When used to control a vehicle gearbox, a spring-pressed plunger engages a recess in the shaft to provide added resistance to rotation as a warning that reverse gear has been selected.
