Abstract

747,195. Electrolysis. LIGHTNING FASTENERS, Ltd., LOCKE, E. G., PERRIAM, L. T., and GOLDBERG, S. S. July 23, 1954 [Sept. 11, 1953], No. 25149/53. Class 41. A process for the electrolytic treatment of metal members on a fabric tape 1 which incorporates fine wires, e.g. for anodizing aluminium zip-fastener members, comprises passing the tape 1 through an electrolytic bath 3 which is divided by an insulating partition 7 into an anode and a cathode compartment, the top of the partition 7 lying below the normal level 5 of the electrolyte in the bath, and segregating the electrolyte in the two compartments by depressing the level thereof locally on each side of the partition to below the top thereof, the tape 1 rising above the depressed level on passing from one compartment to the next: The level is depressed by air pressure, which may be static or in the form of a blast, introduced through an inverted insulating trough 13. An anode 9 electrifies the tape 1, and a cathode 11 completes the circuit.
