Abstract

747,084. Electric tunnel furnaces. AKT.- GES. BROWN, BOVERI, & CIE. Oct. 8, 1954 [Oct. 8, 1953], No. 29088/54. Class 39(3). In a tunnel furnace in which vertical resistor heating rods 7 are placed in niches in the inner side walls of the furnace with vertical ribs of the masonry wall between the rods, alternate ribs 5 project a smaller distance towards the work 9 than the intermediate ribs 6, so that when alternate heating rods 7 are removed, the work is still wholly irradiated by direct radiant heat from the rods 7. The innermost parts of the niches is given a double parabolic shape in order to minimise direct reflection of heat back on to the heating rods 7, which are metallic or ceramic. The masonry side walls support a brickwork roof.
