Abstract
746,479. Pneumatic tyres. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd. Dec. 15, 1953 [Feb. 3, 1953], No. 2985/53. Class 144 (2). The tread 2 of a tyre 1 for use on vehicles with a liability to kerbing on one side during operation, is reinforced at one shoulder 4 with an endless circumferential lateral projection of vulcanized rubber. As shown, the reinforced shoulder 4 may comprise a heavy circumferential rib broken by circumferentially spaced transverse grooves 5 and holes 6, the depths of the grooves 5 being such that when the reinforced tread shoulder is worn, use of the tyre for " normal " service conditions only is indicated by measurement or appearance of the grooves. In alternative constructions, the holes, slots or grooves may be inclined or circumferentially extending. The reinforcement may extend wholly or partly down the tyre side-wall.
