Abstract
745,992. Bending glass sheets. LIBBEYOWENS-FORD GLASS CO. March 8, 1954 [March 12, 1953], No. 6626/54. Class 56 In the bending of glass sheets, particularly for car windscreens and rear windows, in which the sheets are laid initially like a beam across the open end-sections of moulding frame comprising pivoted centre and end-sections, the sheets are initially supported intermediate their ends and these supports are removed as the mould reaches fully closed position and the sheets become fully shaped. In the form shown in Fig. 4, blocks 42 of heat insulating material are pivoted to arms 41 secured to the sides of the end sections 30. As shown, the sheet 20 is initially supported by the blocks 42 but when the mould has fully closed, the blocks have moved to the position shown in full lines below the surface of the closed mould. In the form shown in Fig. 7, the sheets are supported by heat-insulating bars 79 connected by a pivotal sliding connection to arms 78 secured to the sides of the end sections.
