Abstract

745,471. Radio receiving, muting and limiting systems. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Sept. 4, 1953 (Nov. 15, 1952], No. 24536/53. Class 40 (5). In a receiver the demodulator 1 is connected to the output circuit 2 through a network, including a biased rectifier G1 normally non- conducting, but rendered conducting to short circuit the received demodulated signal, on excessive noise interference, by an auxiliary circuit comprising a filter 3 responsive to noise frequency components lying outside the signal frequency band, amplifier 4 and rectifier 5 which rectifies the noise components and applies an opposing bias to the rectifier G1 to short circuit it. Another biased rectifier G2 may be in series with the received signal channel normally blocking the signal in the absence of a received carrier, but rendered conducting on receipt of the carrier, e.g. by the bias received from the limiter 6 in the case of an F.M. receiver.
