744,826. Regulating fluid flow; valves. DAY, A. Dec. 11, 1953 [Dec. 12, 1952], No. 31468/52. Class 135. A ball valve for flushing and other cisterns is provided with a pressure reducing element 21 which is positioned in the bore of the inlet casting or shank 1 to define therewith an expansion chamber 2, the element having a baffle pin or rod 23 extending transversely across it to divide the flow of water into the expansion chamber and thereby reduce the noise in the operation of the valve. The element 21 has a bore 22 slightly less than the diameter of the expansion chamber and also a smaller bore 4 which may have the same diameter as the inlet of a conventional ball valve. The outlet from the expansion chamber may then be four or more times larger than the bore 4. The spigot for connecting the usual mains supply is received in a recess 3.
