744,343. Flocking films. SVENSKA VAXDUKS AKTIEBOLAGET. Nov. 3, 1953 [Nov. 4, 1952], No. 30404/53. Class 140. [Also in Group XVI] A web of thermoplastic material, e.g. of polyvinyl chloride or polyethylene, is heated to cause one surface of the plastic to soften, the other surface remaining cool so that the web does not deform during the heating process, and flock may be applied to the softened surface. The web 1 is covered with flock by a device 18. The web is first heated gently by a heater 17, then, after being covered with flock, is subjected to a greater heat by a heater 19 having a frame 11 carrying a number of infra-red lamps. During this heating period the opposite side of the web is cooled by contact with the cooling cylinder 8 as before. The flock is pressed into the surface of the web by an endless band 20 passing over pulleys 21, 22, 23 and 24. The heater 19 and the band 20 with its supporting pulleys are mounted on an arm 13 allowing ready withdrawal from the cylinder 8. The flock may also be applied by known electrostatic means.
