Abstract

Finely divided polychlorotrifluoroethylene is dispersed in a medium comprising a chlorinated diphenyl containing 20 to 40 per cent of combined chlorine and having a boiling point close to the fusion temperature of the polymer, preferably from 225 DEG C. to 350 DEG C. The composition may include a diluent which is preferably a mixture of 3 parts by weight of benzene, toluene or xylene and 1 part by weight of acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, methyl isobutyl ketone or di-isobutyl ketone. The dispersion may be applied to a surface, the coated surface heated to the fusion temperature of the polymer to evaporate the dispensing medium and fuse the polymer, thereby forming, on cooling, a continuous crack-free coating.
