Abstract
742,064. Mounting and controlling liquid fuel burners. SWINNEY BROS., Ltd. Jan. 28, 1954 [Jan. 28, 1953], No. 2473/53. Class 75(1). An oil fuel burner 17, provided with a valve 24 which seals oil within the burner when the latter is removed from its holder 11, is detachably held to the holder 11 by a securing screw 14 fitted with a handwheel 14a covered by a hand lever 8 which is held down by a trigger 9 and is adapted to depress a valve spindle 4 and open a spring-loaded valve 2 to allow oil 15 to be fed to the burner. Thus before the handwheel 14a can be operated to release the burner 17 the trigger 9 must be disengaged and the lever 8 raised to allow the fuel valve 2 to close. The resulting fall of pressure in the fuel passage 28 in the holder 11 causes the spring pressed ball valve 24 to close, so that the oil does not spill from the burner 17 as it is removed. The lever 8 and handwheel 14a are of such dimensions that when the handwheel is turned so as to free the burner its position is such as to prevent engagement between the lever 8 and the valve stem 4 so that the valve 2 cannot be opened. The burner holder 11 is provided with slots for receiving studs whereby it may be adjustably mounted on a support 26 (not shown) and moved up or down to disengage or engage the oil inlet 10 with or from the burner.
