In a door-plate and handle assemblage for a vehicle door comprising in combination door handle 14 having in its shank 16 a barrel lock 19 whereof the bolt 20 can be projected radially to effect locking, and an escutcheon 15 surrounding the shank of the handle and formed at 22 to provide locking engagement with the bolt 20, the escutcheon 15 is rotatably adjustable on the door-plate 10 and is provided with means for fixing it when thus adjusted in one or other of two angularly separated positions for use respectively on right and left-handed doors. The handle 14, the door-plate 10, the escutcheon 15 and the bolt 20 are such that they can be assembled to form either a right or a lefthanded assemblage. The movement of the handle 14 is limited to 60 degrees by shoulders 24 and 25 engaging a stop 26 on the escutcheon 15. The escutcheon 15 is mounted on the plate 10 by three pins 30, Fig. 3, spaced from one another by 120 degrees which enables the escutcheon to be rotated 120 degrees clockwise from the position shown so that the alternative stop 29 on the escutcheon 15 takes up the position of the stop 24. By rotating the doorplate 120 degrees anti-clockwise, and by rotating the escutcheon as described above, the assemblage is transformed from a left to a righthanded arrangement with the exception that the socket 22 in the escutcheon, which accommodates the head of the bolt 20, is displaced 180 degrees from the bolt head and for this purpose the bolt 20 is reversed in its transverse bore 21. the shape of the door-plate may be circular or may be a 60 degree segment of a circle (see Figs. 7 and 8, not shown).
