Abstract

741,726. Control mechanism for cycles. SACKVILLE, Ltd., and LAWSON, E. A. Jan. 12, 1953 [Jan. 12, 1952], No. 990/52. Classes 136 (1) and 136 (3). A flexible cable 12 is secured to bicycle handlebars 1 by a clamping means which utilises the normal clamping bolt 4 which secures the handle-bars in the normal contractible sleeve 3 on the tubular steering stem 2. As shown in Fig. 1, the head 6 of the bolt 4 is provided with two grooves 7, Fig. 3. A correspondingly grooved clamping plate 8 is connected to the head by a fixing screw 10 to grip a pair of cables 12. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the head 6 of the bolt 4 lies in a horizontal plane. The cable clamp comprises a plate 8 and a bracket 14 having a pair of cable recesses and an integral eyed lug 15 through which the bolt 4 passes.
