Abstract
741,575. Musical boxes. MATTEL, Inc. Feb. 24, 1954 [Feb. 24, 1953], No. 5167/53. Class 88(1) [Also in Group XV] A protuberance on the flexible belt of a musical box like that described in Specification 707,248 is used to release a spring- loaded part of a musical toy. A Jack-in-thebox Figs. 1 and 3 comprises a spring-loaded part 4 retained by a lid 2 and a latch 5. The latch is pivoted at 6 and is biased to its latching position by weights 9. The musical box is operated by a handle 13 and the flexible belt 11 carries a large protuberance 17 in addition to the protuberances 16 which pluck the musical comb (not shown). The protuberance 17 releases the latch as shown in Fig. 3. In a musical clock, Figs. 4, 5 a spring-loaded rod 29 is released at a predetermined stage to strike a lever 28 against a bell 27, to uncover a mouse 25 and to rotate a disc 54 pivoted at 55 so that the eyes and the mouth of cat shown on the clock face, appear to change. The L- shaped rod 29 is normally held against the spring 41 by means of a notch 31 held in engagement with a latch plate 34 by a leaf spring 38 and a collar 39. An arm 8 of the L-shaped rod engages slots in the leaf spring and in a flap 58 attached to the disc 54. A dome shaped cover 26 is attached to the upper end of the rod 29 and to a guide rod 30. The latch is released when a large protuberance 42 on the flexible belt 43 engages the rod. Specification 655,658 also is referred to.
