Abstract

741,351. Drying webs. DUNGLER, J. Oct. 5, 1950 [Oct. 10, 1949], No. 24369/50. Class 34(1). In a process of continuously depositing gelatine in or on travelling strip material 21, such as paper, which is impregnated with a solution of gelatine, the solvent is evaporated by high speed jets of a hot gaseous fluid such as superheated steam supplied through nozzles 4, 5 by blower boxes 2, 3 having fans 6, 7 and the nozzles being separated by discharge channels 4a, 5a, the operating conditions including temperature and discharge rate being so chosen that the solvent throughout the material is brought to its boiling point and evaporated while boiling. The drying chamber 1 is maintained substantially air free by replacing the air therein by superheated steam and the liquid evaporated, if water, may form part of the recirculated steam. The web passes through the chamber 1 between endless conveyers 32, 33.
