740,775. Magnetic structures. CENTRE NATIONAL DE LA RECHERCHE SCIENTIFIQUE. May 11, 1953 [May 14, 1952], No. 13144/53. Drawings to Specification. Class 38 (2). A permanent magnet is made by impregnating a sintered mixture of iron and cobalt oxides with a liquid which is solidified by heating while a magnetic field is applied to orientate the magnetic elements. Suitable impregnants are phenol - formol, formaldehyde, melamine, glycero-phthalate, ethoxyline and silicone resins, shellac and some natural gums, and .fatty varnishes. It is desirable to choose materials which harden at the most suitable temperature for magnetic orientation. An example is described, in which a ferrite body is impregnated under vacuum followed by pressure with a silicone varnish of high viscosity, the varnish being hardened at 300‹ C. for one hour, while a field of 3000 Oersteds is applied.
