Abstract
740,034. Control systems for X-ray tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. March 23, 1954 [March 21, 1953], No. 8293/54. Class 38 (4). In a control system for an X-ray tube 1, particularly one directly fed with A.C., wherein a multi-position exposure-time selecting switch 12 is ganged with a similar switch 11, for automatically varying the cathode heating of the tube (and consequently the lower loading of the tube) in dependence upon the selected exposure time, the connections of the tappings of the timing resistor 21 to the switch 12 and of the tappings of a cathode heating control resistor 10 to the switch 11 are so arranged that, in the range of exposure times corresponding to a few cycles of the A.C. supply, successive differing values of exposure time differ by at least half a cycle and for each such value two or more different values of cathode heating current are available. In the arrangement shown, the shortest exposure time is obtained in any of the first three positions of switch 12, switch 11 providing three different values of tube loading for this exposure time.
