Abstract
739,155. Blowpipe burners. HANCOCK, L. J. May 21, 1953 [June 30, 1952], No. 16377/52. Class 75 (1). In an oxygen cutting blowpipe nozzle, particularly for use with a fuel gas having a low flame velocity, the orifice or orifices through which the oxygen-fuel-gas mixture issues is or are counterbored or made of larger diameter near the end or ends for reducing the flow velocity of the mixture to correspond approximately to the flame velocity, and the or each orifice opens into a recess in the nozzle tip of larger cross-sectional area than that of the discharge opening of the or each orifice. In the oxygen cutting nozzle illustrated, the heating fuel gas-oxygen mixture is supplied to the annular space between an outer nozzle member 5 and a nozzle insert 9, and is discharged through a ring of passages 17 in the atter surrounding an axial bore 15 for discharging cutting oxygen. Each passage 17 has a counterbored part 18 at its forward end which opens into a further counterbored part 19. Alternatively, the counterbored part 18 opens into a shallow annular groove in the end face of the nozzle. The passages 17 are arranged convergently in respect to the central oxygen passage 15.
