Abstract
Polyoxamides having an inherent viscosity of at least 0.7 and resistant to degradation by light are obtained from 3-methyl hexamethylene, 3-methyl heptamethylene, 2-methyl hexamethylene diamine or 2.11-diamino-dodecane. The polyamides contain no components other than those derived from the diamine and oxalic acid. In an example 0.05 mol. 3-methylheptamethylene diamine, 50 cc. dry n-butanol and 0.05 mol. di-n-butyloxalate were mixed and the resulting prepolymer after removal of butanol heated at low pressure in nitrogen for 2 hours. The resulting polymer had an inherent viscosity of 0.70. Other polyoxamides from the specified diamines are also described. Figures are given for the light stability and for the fatigue endurance at various moisture contents of 3-methylhexamethylene polyoxamide, 2-methylhexamethylene polyoxamide and polyhexamethylene adipamide. Specifications 461,236, 461,237 and 737,423 are referred to.
