Abstract
737,930. Collapsible shelters. STOKES, E. L., and MOTE, H. T. Feb. 8, 1954 [Nov. 7, 1952], No. 28097/52. Class 20 (1). A collapsible structure, e.g. for sheltering a car, comprises a plurality of arches 1a ... 1d arranged in front of each other and covered by a flexible material 10, the arches being interconnected by pairs of crossed struts 6 ... 6b which are pivotally interconnected at their crossing points 7 ... 7b, and are pivotally connected at their ends at 8, 9 to the arches and hold the arches in spaced relation in erected position, but permit the " concertina-like " collapse of the structure. The arch 1a is fixed, e.g. by hooking at 4 to a wall or at 25 to the car bumper. Each arch comprises a tubular roof portion 3 telescoping at each end into a base tube 2, the roof portion being in three sections 3a ... 3c connected by sockets 14. The struts 6... 6b form a lazy-tongs. The structure has wheels or castors 15 which may run on tracks on the ground. The material 10 may be fixed to the arches 1a by strips 11 having press studs 12, and flaps, e.g. 10a, may be provided at one or both ends of the structure. Means, e.g. a cord 26, may be used to tie the arches to the ground.
