Abstract

737,760. Pneumatic tyres. FIRESTONE TIRE & RUBBER CO. July 1, 1953 [July 30, 1952], No. 18228/53. Class 144 (2). A chafer strip 40, 41, particularly for tubeless pneumatic tyres to prevent air leakage on abrasion of the tyre beads, is formed from air impervious material, such as nylon or vinyl resin, in the form of rubberized sheet, unwoven strip or square or open woven monofilaments. The chafer strips are built into the tyre on a shouldered flatband collapsible building drum 24 to extend around the radially inner and laterally outer portions of the beads 30, 31. The Specification describes the build-up of a tubeless tyre having diaphragm seating ledges moulded to its laterally inner bead surfaces to receive an internal safety diaphragm.
