In a tubular framed chair or stool in which the seat and/or back are sprung by helical tension springs 19, the ends of the latter are hooked into apertures 22 in the tubular side members 11 and the springs are sheathed in flexible tubes 20 preferably of polyvinyl chloride. Preferably, the apertures are disposed slightly inwardly of the crown of the tube.
