Abstract
In the machine for the liquid after-treatment of artificial threads described in the parent Specification, means is provided for heating or cooling the surface or surfaces used to supply processing liquid. Means may also be provided for heating or cooling the surface or surfaces used to remove the processing liquid, particularly where the treating liquid is being continuously circulated. For heating the surface an electric heating element may be provided within a tube forming the surface, or a pipe may be fitted so that it projects into the tube so that a heating or cooling fluid may be passed continuously through the pipe and then withdrawn through the annular space between the inner pipe and the tube. Alternatively the tube forming the surface may be part of a closed circuit through which a heating or cooling fluid is continuously pumped. In this embodiment the liquid-removing surface may be part of the same closed circuit, e.g. by using a U-tube construction, the two arms of which function respectively as the liquid-applying and liquid-removing surfaces. The use of the heated liquid-applying surfaces of the invention, in addition to expediting the processing treatment, helps to maintain a humid atmosphere in the vicinity of the thread pack.
