736,068. Pneumatic tyres. TRELLEBORGS GUMMIFABRIKS AKTIEBOLAG. Nov. 13, 1953 [Nov. 13, 1952], No. 31531/53. Class 144 (2). In a circumferentially ribbed tyre tread having a central circumferential groove 16 intersected by transverse grooves which divide the ribs 19, 20, 21, 22 into circumferentially spaced studs or blocks, the groove 16 is given a regular or irregular wave formation to reduce the tendency for build up of undesirable noise during use of the tyre. As shown the tread has a circumferential groove 17, 18 on each side of the central groove 16 to provide four circumferential rows of blocks following the same wave formation, which may be a sine curve about a circumferential axis. The tyre tread may comprise circumferential sections in each of which the wave pattern of the ribs 16, 17, 18 is regular, but different from that of adjacent sections, and preferably repeated between three and five times. The circumferential dimension of the tread studs or blocks may vary in the different sections and the different wave patterns may cover different circumferential extents of the tread. In use on planed snow-covered roads the sinuous grooving of the tyre prevents engagement thereof with snow ridges on the road surface.
