735,813. Travelling-band filters. DELPARK CORPORATION. June 29, 1953, No. 17978/53. Class 46. [Also in Group XXX] The device includes driving mechanism such as 22 to 25 for periodically moving an expendable filter medium such as paper 21 drawn from a roll 13 on a perforated conveyer band 14, 15 over a tank 10 for receiving filtered liquid, lifting elements such as side aprons 20 and end ramps 29 (not shown) and over which the conveyerband rides for causing it to sag within the tank to form a liquid-receiving pocket, and a control member comprising a float 38 positioned in the pocket and governed by the accumulated supply of residue therein to actuate the driving mechanism to move a fresh section of the medium into the pocket. Material to be filtered, such as used machine-tool coolant, is discharged from a pipe 26 through a slot 28, some filtration taking place through the medium and conveyer band above the ramp 29, the central portion of which is open. The level of sludge on the medium 21 is in part controlled by a baffle plate 31 pivotally mounted above the central tank pocket just beyond the down-turned end portion of the ramp 29. When the liquid level reaches a predetermined height the float 38 rises and the float arm 39 thereupon operates a switch 35 controlling the power supply 37 to the motor 22. The motor on being energized drives a roller 16 through gearing 23 to 25, the roller in turn moving the conveyer band so that its upper portion moves from left to right through the tank, withdrawing filter paper from the roll 13 and discharging it from the other end of the tank as it does so. Passage of the paper 21 up the ramp 40 ensures final drainage and filtration. The conveyer band preferably comprises an endless slatted belt 14 having flexible perforate side skirts 15.
