Abstract
735,440. Refrigerating; heat-storing apparatus. DOLE REFRIGERATING CO. Aug. 18, 1952 [July 23, 1952], No. 20725/52. Classes 29 and 64 (2). A defrosting circuit for a refrigeration apparatus includes a reheater comprising a hollow plate 1 with a valve 220 to enable it to be exhausted, a coil C within the plate and surrounded by heatstorage liquid, and a second coil B outside the plate but in heatconductive relation with the liquid, one coil B being connected between the outlet of the compressor 100 and the condenser 104 and the other coil C being connected between the outlet of the evaporator 107 and the suction side of the compressor. The hot gas from the compressor 100 passes, during normal working, by a pipe 103 through the coil B in the heat exchanger A giving up heat to the heat storage liquid, and thence to the condenser 104. The liquid refrigerant passes by a pipe 106 to the evaporator 107 through an expansion valve 110- and the evaporated refrigerant returns to the compressor by pipe 112, coil C of the heat exchanger A and pipe 118. During defrosting, controlled by a timing device, a valve 120 in a by-pass 103a is opened, allowing hot gas from the compressor to pass direct to the evaporator beyond the expansion valve 110. Any gas condensed in the evaporator is reevaporated in the coil C of the heat exchanger A by the heat stored in the heat storage liquid before returning to the compressor. A fan 107a is provided for the evaporator 107 and is actuated during defrosting. Fig. 5 shows a modified heat exchanger in which the plate is divided into two parts by a partition 15, the coils B, C each being immersed in the heat storage liquid. In further modifications a plate divided into three compartments is used with a coil in each, the coils in the outside compartments being joined in series.
